SURREY – Naad Foundation wove a beautiful afternoon of music and poetry last Saturday to honour legendary Punjabi Poet Surjit Pattar, who was in Vancouver last week as part of the visiting Indian poets gathering at SFU
The event took place at the Conference Hall of Kwantlen University, Surrey BC. It began with a wonderful musical serenade by the ensemble of Amarjeet Singh (Tabla), Dr. Bruce Harding (Flute), Gagandeep Singh (Vocal), Sandy Singh (Guitar), and Coach Sandhu (Guitar) who set the mood for Patar Ji.
The melody helped Surjit Patar to cast a spell on the audience with his mastery of the Punjabi language and he then shared some beautiful poems with the audience. He also shared a brief history of how his path led him to where he is today.
After he enlightened the audience with his creative literary knowledge, students of Naad Centre for Performing & Visual Arts, Kanwalnain, Tavnoor – Jaskirat, Khhsdeep, Balkirat, Prabhjeet, Jaspreet Kaur and Tanvir Singh (Tabla) performed a simple but meaningful poem of Patar Sahib (aj mere kolo kach da gilas…) to honor Patar Ji’s presence.
Once the artistry subsided the audience mingled with the artists and were able to meet with Patar Ji. The afternoon was the perfect segue to the evening with everyone leaving with warmth in their hearts.
