OTTAWA – NDP Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on the 31st anniversary of the November 1984 pogroms in India, which senselessly slaughtered thousands of innocent Sikhs.
“The month of November marks the 31st anniversary of the tragic and deadly 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms in India.
On behalf of all New Democrats, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the thousands of victims of the anti-Sikh attacks and to the survivors, too many of whom are still left seeking answers more than three decades after these horrible events.
We continue to call for support and rehabilitation for the families that were destroyed by these attacks, especially widows.
New Democrats stand in solidarity with the Sikh community and other independent human rights organizations on the need for a full rendering of justice and truth in this tragedy.
We will not forget.”
