Building a credit history can be a large hurdle for newcomers to Canada.  Credit history is a key first step in starting a new life here – from renting that first apartment, or buying a car, to eventually settling into your first home.  There is now a new way to quickly establish and build your credit history in Canada with RBC’s Newcomer to Canada Credit Card program – an unsecured credit card of up to $1,000.

To qualify for this unsecured card, you must:

  • Open or have an RBC Personal Deposit Account (primary or joint)
  • Have proof of landed immigrant status (confirmation of Permanent Residence) that shows arrival under the Skilled Worker/Investor categories
  • Have arrived in Canada within the last 12 months
  • Not have any Canadian credit history.

Just recently the Newcomer to Canada Credit Card program has been enhanced to provide a second unsecured credit card, with a $1,000 credit limit, for your spouse or partner.  This new unsecured credit card option will help couples establish and build their credit history in Canada faster.
