Nina Grewal Re-Appointed To Foreign Affairs And International Development Committee

OTTAWA – MP Nina Grewal has beenre-appointed to serve on the House ofCommons Standing Committee forForeign Affairs and InternationalDevelopment.Grewal has also been asked to re-serveon the Subcommittee on InternationalHuman Rights. She has been a memberof both committees since 2011.”I am excited to know that I will be servingon the Foreign Affairs andInternational Development Committeeagain and carrying on with the importantwork of the committee on behalf of ourgovernment. I thank Prime MinisterHarper for his confidence in me,” saidMP Grewal. “Canada’s international relationsand foreign policies are integral toour security and prosperity. At the sametime, Canada is a global leader that has aresponsibility to defend human rightsand help nations in need. I look forwardto working with my fellow committeemembers on shaping Canada’s foreignpolicy and development initiatives for thebetterment of our country and othernations as well.”In the previous year, the Foreign AffairsCommittee has addressed a range ofimportant issues, including the Syriancrises, Canada’s Arctic foreign policy, thehuman rights situation in Burma, and thepersecution of the Copt community inEgypt.”Ongoing instability in the Middle Eastas well as recent terrorist attacks inKenya are on the minds of Canadians,”stated Ms. Grewal. “Our government isworking to ensure that Canadian familiesare safe at home and abroad through foreignpolicy and development initiativesabroad.”Since she was elected in 2004, MPGrewal has served on a number of differentcommittees, such as Citizenshipand Immigration and Canadian Heritage.Notably, Ms. Grewal was the vice-chairfor the Standing Committee on theStatus of Women.”As a member of the Foreign Affairs andInternational Development Committee, Iam proud to represent the interests ofCanadians on foreign policy.
