Fights, many captured on video, have been plaguing Brampton since last December.

TORONTO -Nine Indian men are accused by Peel Regional Police of causing ongoing violence in the Indo-Canadian dominated city of Brampton.

Police have identified nine men they say are responsible for a series of violent and public stick brawls that have been breaking out in parking lots around Brampton since December 2017.

The six Brampton men who are wanted on a variety of charges including assault, assault with a weapon, extortion, and uttering death threats are Parminder Singh (known as Dhali), 30, Jatinder Singh (known as Cheema), 25, Vishayjeet Singh (known as Vishay), 21, Opinderjeet Sandhu (known as Opinder), 20, Amritpal Singh (known as Kamboj), 21, and Raja Waraich, 37.

The fights – the last of which was recorded in June – garnered widespread attention as some were captured on videotape and posted on social media, reported Brampton Guardian newspaper.

The accused are all Brampton residents between the ages of 19 and 37. Three have been arrested and charged, but police have issued arrest warrants for six others who have not yet been arrested.

Members of the community expressed alarm at the violence this past spring, some of it happening in areas around Shoppers World and Sheridan College. Local MPs publicly reacted after complaints from constituents about the fights, which the community blamed on “international students.”

When asked if the accused are international students, Peel police Const. Danny Martinni would only say “they are all in Canada legally, and all are at various stages of the immigration process.”

She said the motivation for the attacks is not clear, and it isn’t certain if the victims were chosen randomly, or targeted. There were no serious injuries reported.

Police said several people were involved in the assaults, and they thanked the public for help in identifying suspects, but added they are asking for more help from the public in finding the six men yet to be arrested.

The three men already arrested are Gurpreet Singh, 31, Lovepreet Singh, 19, and Arpinder Gill, 20, and all are facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, and possession of a dangerous weapon, reported Brampton Guardian newspaper.
