NRI Husband Turfs Indian Wife After Her Family Refused To Pay Denied 2.5 Million Rupees Dowry

SURAT – A woman in Navsari has charged her NRI husband with abandoning her for not giving him Rs 25 lakh dowry. She has alleged that her husband had thrashed her and her brother.

Zaheda Bibi, 44, a resident of Charpul in Navsari, has lodged a complaint in this regard at Navsari Mahila police station. She said in her complaint that she got married to Hussain Saiyed alias Higum Hussain, 58, on Friday.

Hussain is a Mauritius national and was originally from Navsari. He came to India on Thursday to marry Zaheda. Hussain’s residence is in Chandni Apartment in Zaveri Sadak of Navsari.

The marriage was solemnized as per the rituals. The complainant told police that on the second day of her marriage, Hussain called her brother Arif for a meeting and demanded Rs 25 lakh as dowry. Hussain refused to take Zaheda with him to Mauritius if the amount was not given to him, she has stated in her complaint.

Arif told him that he was not in a position to give him this much of money. This led to a heated argument between the two and Hussain thrashed Arif resulting in injuries to the latter, Zaheda has alleged.

The accused then escaped. Unable to locate him, Zaheda lodged a complaint with police which registered a case and initiated investigation into the matter.

Police are investigating as to how the two came into contact and whether Hussain had planned to demand dowry before his marriage. Zaheda informed police that Hussain had divorced his first wife and that his children live in Mauritius.
