SURREY — Progressive Intercultural Community Society, which received the Canadian Heritage Recognition Program Grant, released “Race Relations Today: A History of Sikhs in BC” book on Wednesday.
The event took place at PICS’ head office in Surrey, and was attended by community members, media and many politicians Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, who congratulated PICS on their latest achievement and also spoke about the Canadian Heritage Recognition Program and the significance of awarding funding to community groups. Also in attendance were MP’s Jinny Sims, Nina Grewal, Jasbir Sandhu and Wai Young.
Race Relations book gives readers the voices of early South Asian settlers to Canada and details in depth their lives and journey. Without understanding the efforts and endured hardships of early Sikh pioneers to Canada, it is impossible to understand the significance of where the community is at now.
Books are available at PICS for a small donation.
