OPP investigators have arrested and charged five people with first-degree murder, but they won’t say who. The charges stem from the death of Brampton’s Herminder Bhandal, 39, who was found in a burning car in Essa Township Aug. 25.

BRAMPTON— The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested five people in the murder of an Indo-Canadian man from Brampton, who was found in a burning car near the town of Barrie.

However, police refused to reveal the names of the five people charged with first-degree murder of Herminder Bhandal, who was found in a burning car southwest of Barrie just over a week ago, reported the Brampton Guardian.

Police arrested three people last Friday, five days after the body of Bhandal, 39 was found in a burning car in an isolated location on a rural road in Essa Township.

On Thursay, police announced they had arrested two more people over the Labour Day weekend. All five have been charged with first-degree murder, but who the accused are, where they are from and when they will appear in court remains a mystery. Police say they will not say who they have arrested because their investigation is ongoing.

Police also did not clarify as to whether they were from Greater Toronto’s large Indo-Canadian community.

The car was engulfed in flames when police and fire crews were called to the area of Scotch Line and County Road 21 at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.

Once the flames were doused, the body of Bhandal was found inside and the next day police ruled his death was a murder following the results of a post-mortem.

Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau officers are assisting the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with the ongoing investigation.
