Police make quick work of wannabe truck thieves

Two Lower Mainland truck thieves who thought they could make a quick getaway found out otherwise when Island Mounties got involved. A 27-year-old man and 23-year woman were arrested within hours in possession of the stolen truck and taken into custody with out incident.

Around 2:30 AM Friday March 22, 2024, a homeowner in Comox called the RCMP to report his 2021 F150 pickup had just been stolen out of his driveway. The man told police his home security system alerted him to the theft and watched as thieves drove down the driveway with his truck. Local Mounties attended but were unable to locate the truck or thieves.

At 7 AM the same day, the owner contacted the Nanaimo RCMP to advise them that his truck’s GPS system was tracking to a residence in the 1100 block of Stewart Ave in Nanaimo. Officers quickly surrounded the home and sure enough, the truck and thieves were located. 23-year old Westin Ferguson and 27-year old Justice Mckay-Saul of the Lower Mainland were both arrested.

Ferguson was later charged with theft of the truck, possession of the stolen truck of the truck and possession of prohibited weapon (brass knuckles). Mckay- Saul was charged with possession of the stolen truck.  Both were released from custody on conditions with their next court date set for April 9, 2024 in Nanaimo Provincial Court.

The truck owner made his way to Nanaimo later that same day to pick up his truck.
