Police Say Indo-Canadian Gas Station Clerk Was Murdered

An autopsy was conducted Friday, and the death of the man, identified as Surunder Pal Singh was deemed a homicide – head trauma was named as the cause of death.

EDMONTON – Edmonton police said an investigation was underway, after an Indo-Canadian man died, days after he was injured in a fight.

An autopsy was conducted Friday, and the death of the man, identified as Surunder Pal Singh, 61, was deemed a homicide – head trauma was named as the cause of death.

Police said on Friday, October 23, just before 3:30 p.m., officers were called to a gas station in the area of 75 Avenue and 50 Street. It was reported a male customer at the gas station had been involved in what was described as a physical dispute with Singh.

Paramedics treated the employee at the scene, and transported Singh to hospital with life threatening injuries.

“The person involved in the altercation with the employee that passed away has been spoken to by the Edmonton Police Service, however, they are not in custody and no charges have been laid at this point,” EPS spokesperson Noreen Remtulla said.

The victim’s brother told CTV News a number of employees were at the store at the time, including the victim’s wife.

He said the incident happened very quickly.

This is Edmonton’s 19th homicide of 2015.
