NEW YORK – IndianbornU.S. attorney PreetBharara and Indo-Americanactress Mindy Kaling willspeak at this year’s commencementceremonies atthe prestigious Harvard LawSchool.Bharara and Kaling willaddress students and facultyon Class Day ceremonies,which will take place onMay 28, according to HarvardLaw Today report.Former New York Citymayor Michael Bloomberghas been named the commencementspeaker and willaddress the passing out classat Harvard on May 29.Bloomberg received hisMBA from Harvard BusinessSchool and has remainedclosely associatedwith Harvard as an alumnus.The renovated Baker Library— Bloomberg Center —is named in honour of his latefather, William Henry Bloomberg,as is a professorship thatwas endowed in 1996.Manhattan’s top federalprosecutor Bharara graduatedfrom Harvard College in 1990and earned a degree from ColumbiaLaw School in 1993.Bharara has served as U.S.attorney for the Southern Districtof New York since 2009and has an unbeaten track recordof securing over 70 convictionsin cases of insider tradingon Wall Street.Bharara’s office also broughtvisa fraud charges last yearagainst Indian diplomat DevyaniKhobragade, triggering an unprecedenteddiplomatic row betweenIndia and the U.S.Previously, Bharara hadserved as chief counsel and staffdirector of the senate judiciarycommittee’s subcommitteeon administrative oversightand the courts, helping leadthe investigation of the firingof United States attorneys.From 2000 to 2005,Bharara was assistant US attorneyin the Southern Districtof New York, where heprosecuted a wide range ofcriminal cases.Kaling, 34, is an actress,comedian and writer and isbest known for her awardwinningwork in the televisionseries ‘The Office’.She is also the creator,producer and star of the series‘The Mindy Project’.She has received fiveconsecutive nominations forthe Primetime Emmy Awardfor Outstanding ComedySeries as a producer of ‘TheOffice’.A native of Cambridge, Kalinggraduated from DartmouthCollege in 2001.She also co-wrote andstarred in the play ‘Matt+Ben’,which went on to make TimeMagazine’s “Top Ten TheatricalEvents of the Year” in 2003.Kaling was born VeraMindy Chokalingam to a Tamilarchitect father and a Bengali gynaecologistmother.
