Renowned Indo-Canadian physician Dr. Gurdeep Parhar was awarded the Killam Teaching Prize at the 2011 convocation ceremony at UBC. In 1990 UBC instituted a tradition of University Teaching Prizes adjudicated within each Faculty and recognized university-wide. In 1996 the name was changed to the UBC Killam Teaching Prizes. The prizes are awarded annually, from the Killam Endowment Fund, to faculty nominated by students, colleagues, and alumni in recognition of excellence in teaching.  The UBC Killam Teaching Prize is the highest level and most prestigious teaching award at UBC.
