Producer Files Cheating Case Against Shahid Kapoor’s Mother

MUMBAI – Shahid Kapoor doesn’t come cheap thunders his mother Neelima Azeem, who has been dragged to court by a producer who wanted to cast the actor in an Rs 8-crore film

Producer Rajesh Vyas has filed a criminal complaint against Shahid Kapoor’s mother, Neelima Azeem, in the Andheri Metropolitan Court. Vyas has alleged she failed to live up to her promise of roping in the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Emraan Hashmi in a film she was to write, direct and choreograph for a total fee of Rs 66 lakh. He has also alleged that after Priyanka and Emraan couldn’t come on board, Azeem promised to rope in Shahid as lead, but failed again.

When contacted, Azeem refuted all allegations saying she was the one trying to get in touch with Vyas who disappeared for four years after their last discussion in 2009. She said there had been no communication between them ever since, and the court case had come as a rude shock to her.

“I did sign a contract but there was no mention that I would work only after getting Priyanka and Emraan on board. For Vyas’ sake, I approached both the stars, but neither of them was interested in the film,” said Azeem.

She said she then spoke to Kunal Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Jimmy Shergill and Sonu Sood but Vyas turned them down as ‘struggling actors.’ Azeem said she had worked on the film’s script for six months and was paid Rs 12 lakh over a period of time.

“These people have run out of money and are trying to make some by defaming me,” she said.

Did she promise to get Shahid in the lead role? “The budget for the film is Rs 8 crore. My son is a superstar. How dare they think he will do such a low-budget film?”

Vyas’ lawyer Neeraj Gupta said: “We sent a number of notices to Neelima but she never responded to any. I have all the agreement copies. Let her produce the evidence she has in court,” he said.

The next hearing is scheduled for June 12, 2013.
