Pujab’s Green Baba Honoured with ‘Environment Protection Award’ By Dr. Abdul Kalam

NEW DELHI – An eminent Punjab-based environmentalist Padam Shri Baba Sewa Singh, Chairman Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib and Nishan-E-Sikhi Charitable Trust, has been bestowed with “Justice Kuldip Singh-Environment Protection Award’ instituted by Capital Foundation Society Delhi. The honour was conferred by his Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam former President of India in presence of Hon’ble Justice Altamas Kabir Judge  Supreme Court of India, Kapil Sibal Union Minister for Human Resources, Salman Khurshid Union Minister For Law, Naveen Jindal Chancellor of  O.P Jindal Global University, Dr AK Bakhshi Vice Chancellor and Brig. Dr Kapil Mohan. The ceremony was performed in India Isla,mic Cultural Centre New Delhi.

Baba Sewa Singh has already been decorated with dozens of awards including appreciation by His Royal Highness Prince Philip of UK and His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon Secretary General United Nations. The Baba is running 11 schools, colleges and academies where 7000 students are studying in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

Baba Sewa Singh started green campaign in 1999 and has planted Lacs of trees on 250 kilometer roads in Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to save the depleting environment and global Ozone problems.  For the last about 2 years, he is planting various kinds of oxygen emitting trees covering every home of 100 villages in each year. Construction of 8 storey  ‘Nishan-E-Sikh Tower’ at Khadur Sahib has added more colour to his feather where competition preparing academies have been started to open more venues for pursuit by youth.

First of its kind robotic and touch screen ‘Multimedia Sikh Museum ‘was setup at khadur Sahib in 2004 which was spearheaded by world known museologist Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains of Canada which is a place of great attraction for thousands of youth who visit the hub of newest technology in the world.

Others honoured at the occasion were His Excellency Gen. J.J. Singh Governor Arunachal Pradesh, Union Ministers Kapil Sibal and  Salman Khurshid, Naveen Jindal, Dr Arun Mohan, Pro V.N.Rajashekharan Pillai, Encyclopaedist Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains, Dr. Amarjit Singh Narang, H.S. Phoolka Lawyer Supreme Court and a known farmer Sandeep Singh.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Abdul Kalam urged the global nations to create awareness amongst 3 billion people living in rural areas so that global peace, prosperity and human equality  is established to start a new era where there was no place for illiteracy, poverty and ill health.
