FAZILKA – Sonu (20), a resident of local Durga Colony, who was allegedly beaten up by a police constable on December 4, succumbed to his injuries.

Sonu’s father Jeet Singh said his son, who was a tempo driver, was stopped by a police constable near a mausoleum on the outskirts of the town.

He further alleged the constable beat up his son after which he fell unconscious. Sonu was admitted to the local civil hospital from where he was shifted to a private hospital. It is stated that the doctor on duty mentioned that he was suffering from seizures. Sonu could never regain consciousness and eventually died.

The victim’s kin and locality residents protested outside the office of Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police, demanding action against the culprit.

Surinder Singh, SHO, said the police were not aware whether the deceased was beaten up by a policeman. He, however, said they would register a case on the basis of a statement of the victim’s kin.
