Punjab Set To Open NRI Court


Punjab is all set to establish the first-of-its-kind, exclusive court todeal with cases related to NRIs after the state government receivedapproval for the same from Punjab and Haryana high court.

NEW DELHI – Punjab is allset to establish the first-of-itskind,exclusive court to dealwith cases related to NRIsafter the state governmentreceived approval for the samefrom Punjab and Haryana highcourt.Stating this here today,Punjab’s Minister for Revenueand NRI Affairs, Bikram SinghMajithia, said the issue wouldbe discussed at the next meetingof the state Cabinet beforethe proposal is given the goahead.Speaking to reporters onthe sidelines of the 12thPravasi Bharatiya Divas, hesaid the move would fulfil amore than 50- year-olddemand of the NRIs seekingfast-track courts to deal withcases involving them.Majithia also expressed concernover a rise overseas ininstances of attacks on NRIsand urged the Union ExternalAffairs Ministry to take up theissue strongly with the all thosecountries where such cases hadcome to light.
