ABBOTSFORD: After the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, political activities in the country have intensified. On one side, the race to become the next Prime Minister among Liberal Party leaders has begun, while the opposition Conservative Party has also accelerated its activities to select candidates.
As part of these developments, a massive gathering was held in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in support of Conservative Party candidate Mike de Jong’s nomination. Notably, Mike de Jong, who holds the distinction of being the longest-serving MLA in British Columbia’s history, has served in key roles such as Finance Minister, Public Safety Minister, Health Minister, and Attorney General. Now, he has shifted his focus to federal politics.
The rally saw significant attendance, with Stockwell Day and Mary Polak being key figures. The event began with Mary Polak, who has held important positions in provincial politics, appealing to the public for a significant political change and urging support for the Conservative Party.
Addressing the rally, young barrister Lovleen Singh Gill said that the Liberal and NDP parties have falsely created the impression that the Conservative Party is anti-immigrant. He highlighted that former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s immigration policy was regarded as one of the best globally. According to Gill, immigrant community’s values system aligns closely with the Conservative Party.
Amid thunderous applause, Mike de Jong entered the rally and emphasized in his speech that the Conservative Party prioritizes public concerns. He promised that the next government would work to reduce the tax burden on the people. He criticized the capital gains tax imposed by the Liberal Party, calling it a betrayal of hardworking individuals who invest in properties and labeling it as gross overreach by the federal government. He further stated that governments should avoid unnecessary expenses, as financial mismanagement often results in taxpayers being burdened further.
As BC’s Finance Minister, Mike de Jong earned recognition by delivering FIVE balanced budgets. He expressed special gratitude to the Punjabi community, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout his political career and treating him as a family member.
FORMER Conservative leader and Minister of FINANCE Stockwell Day also addressed the rally, criticizing the detrimental policies of the Liberal and NDP parties. He expressed support for Pierre Poilievre, stating that Pierre’s political career began in his office and that his talent indicates he will become a successful Prime Ministers.
On this occasion, Abbotsford City Councillor and former MLA Simon Gibson also appealed to the audience to support Mike de Jong. Several senior party leaders and senators were also present at the event.
All the speakers urged the people of Abbotsford South Langley to register as members of Conservative Party of Canada and support Mike De Jong.
