SURREY – Surrey RCMP provided an update to the public, announcing the arrest of two individuals in connection with shots fired in Guildford on the afternoon of December 29, 2023.
The incident unfolded when frontline officers responded to a report of gunfire in the area of 101 Avenue and 156 Street. Two male suspects hastily fled the scene in a blue Range Rover. During the attempted apprehension of the suspects, one of them allegedly pointed a firearm at a police officer.
A coordinated effort involving Surrey Traffic Services, Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, Air 1, and Langley RCMP led to the arrest of the two suspects in the area of 198 Street and 57 Avenue in Langley.
The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit took charge of the investigation, resulting in charges laid against 24-year-old Roman Arinder Gill and 28-year-old Shaun Narinder Gill. The charges include discharge of a firearm, assault on a police officer with a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm for Roman Arinder Gill. Shaun Narinder Gill faces charges of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Both individuals, known to police, are believed to be connected to the BC Gang Conflict. They have been remanded, and as the matter is now before the courts, no further details will be provided.
Staff Sergeant Ian MacLellan of the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit emphasized that, fortunately, no injuries were reported during this bold incident. “We understand shootings put the community on edge, and we too find this level of violence to be unnerving,” stated MacLellan. He commended the non-stop efforts of the investigative team in pursuing charges against the suspects, reassuring the community of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.
