TORONTO – Canadian comedian Russell Peters will soon be Papa Peters. The standup star from Brampton, Ont., tells The Canadian Press that he and his wife, Monica Diaz, are expecting a child in the new year.
Peters, who published his memoir “Call Me Russell” this week, says the baby girl is due on February 23. Peters and Diaz married Aug. 20 in Las Vegas.
He says it was a small ceremony of about 20 people at A Little White Wedding Chapel, where stars including Britney Spears have wed.
An Elvis impersonator was on hand, as was Peters’ mother and his brother, Clayton, who is also his manager.
Peters say the whole wedding cost about $1,200.
“I wrapped it up quick and I knocked her up as well — ta da!” Peters, 40, said in an interview Tuesday as he flashed his heavy platinum wedding band adorned with diamonds.
“Did I get married because she was knocked up? I would say that expedited it,” he added with a laugh.
Peters, who splits his time between Vegas and Los Angeles, has been in Toronto for about a month shooting the film “Breakaway.”
