SAD Treasurer NK Sharma, Congress Leaders Evaded Stamp Duty: Report

CHANDIGARH – The Revenue Department has held thatthe construction firm, VN Builders, owned by the treasurerof the Shiromani Akali Dal and Chief ParliamentarySecretary NK Sharma and members of his family, evadedstamp duty to the tune of Rs 1.30 crore. The departmenthas also found that Congress leader Fatehjung Bajwa hasevaded stamp duty amounting to Rs 66 lakh in land transactionsnear Chandigarh. Congress leader Sukhpal SinghKhaira has been found “guilty” of evading duty to the tuneof Rs 76,000 by the inquiry officer. The department had gota preliminary inquiry conducted by the tehsildars of DeraBassi and Majri. The reports were submitted to MohaliDeputy Commissioner (DC) Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhurecently.The DC, when contacted, refused to divulge anydetails. Sources in the Revenue Department said Sharma’sfirm VN Sharma Builders got 9 acres of land registered inBishanpura village on March 28 and paid Rs 2 crore asstamp duty, showing it as agricultural land, thereby causinga loss of over Rs 1 crore to the exchequer. Since the landwas to be used for residential purposes, the stamp dutyamounted to Rs 3.5 crore.
