Saif Ali Khan’s ‘AgentVinod’ has run into troubleagain. A Bangalore-basedrecord label, Lahari, is allegedlyplanning to sue the makersof the film for using the songRakkama Kaiya Thattu fromRajinikanth’s hit flick,’Dalapathi’, in their film withoutprior permission.
A source tells us, “Thelabel is planning to sue themakers because they haven’ttaken any permission to usethe song.The global rights of thesong lie with this label, whichpurchased it from the producerof ‘Dalapathi’, GV Films, in1992 for 75 lakh.”Since then, any use of thesong, we have learnt, is to bedone with the permission ofthis label.”This is how licensingfunctions for films worldwide.When people from the labelheard about the usage of thesong, which is played for a significantamount of time in ascene, they decided to takelegal action.
Subsequently, they havebeen consulting their lawyersand are gearing up to sue theproducers of ‘Agent Vinod’ fora huge sum,” says the source.When we contacted Velu,director, Lahari, he confirmedthis news by saying, “Yes, weare going to take legal actionagainst the team.
“Pungi bajao-edThe Pungi song in the’Agent Vinod’ soundtrack hadgot into legal issue too.Iranian band Barobax hadsent a notice on March 16 tocomposer Pritam claiming thatthe beginning of the song hadbeen lifted from their 2010song Soosan Khanoom, whichis protected by the CopyrightAct of Canada.
But, in April,the band withdrew the casestating, “We decided to withdrawthe case filed againstPritam for copying a song ofBarobax. After the analysismade by experts, we realizedthat Pritam is right and there isno copying.”
