Search Resumes For Indo-Canadian Man Missing In Australia For Months

SYDNEY – The search for the Indo-Canadian man who went missing in theKosciuszko National Park in theAustralian state of New South Wales(NSW) resumed on Monday. The searchhad been abandoned June 1, ahead ofheavy winter snowfall.Prabhdeep Srawn, 25, of Brampton inthe Canadian province of Ontario, waslast seen May 13 parking his rented vehicleat Charlotte Pass village and enteringthe Kosciuszko National Park.The New South Wales police have startedsearch operations again, a week before18 volunteers arrive from Canada to helplocate the missing Bond University lawstudent, The Canberra Times reportedMonday.Srawn’s cousin Ruby Singh saidthe family was grateful to Australianauthorities for allocating resources forthe search operation to locate missingbush walker Srawn.”We’re hoping that they will be able tohopefully find Prabh soon and we canput this behind us,” Singh was quoted assaying. “We’ve put together a team ofvolunteers and we were hoping to deploythem after the police search was over andresolved, but unfortunately the policesearch had to be delayed, so some of it isgoing to overlap, to begin next week,”she said.Srawn’s family has already spentover A$50,000 to bring a four-manCanadian search and rescue team to thearea, assisted by local volunteers.The family offered a reward to anyonewho helped find Srawn but withdrew theoffer later on the advice of authorities.Srawn was reportedly trying to climbMount Kosciuszko, the highest peak inmainland Australia, located within thepark.Srawn’s sister Mandeep Srawn laterfound his laptop in the rented car, revealinghis likely route to Mount Townsend,north-west of Mount Kosciuszko.Srawn was a master corporal in theCanadian Armed Forces, an AustraliaDefence Force reservist and had bushwalkingexperience.He has been inAustralia for two years and was due toleave for Canada in a fewmonths.According to his relatives, Srawnhad substantial experience in hiking andhad done several hikes before.
