In a dedicated effort to address the issues faced by international students in Canada, Folk Art and Cultural Exchange Society (C Face) in collaboration with Studio 7 organized a seminar and a documentary film screening at Strawberry Hill Library in Surrey on October 27.
Central to the event was Navalpreet Rangi’s documentary, Bay-Watne, which sheds light on the unique challenges international students face. Following the screening, Rangi led a discussion on solutions to these pressing issues.
When the youth of any nation begins to stray, it is the duty of community leaders—including politicians, doctors, and social service organizations—to offer guidance and encouragement. After the film screening, Rangi invited the esteemed poet Mohan Gill to open the seminar, followed by the society’s CEO, Kanwaljit Singh Mananwala, who spoke about the role of C-Face and issued a heartfelt call to the established business community and long-time residents to support students who have invested heavily in their education abroad.
Society Chairman Bhupinder Singh Ladhar detailed future initiatives of C-Face, while Parminder Singh Dhaliwal motivated the attendees with his poetry. Baljinder Kaur, a prominent radio and TV host, shared personal experiences and insights from her involvement in the community, complemented by Radio Punjab’s Lovey Pannu and Punjabi Press Club’s Balbir Kaur Dhillon, who also provided valuable guidance.
Answering questions from the students, speakers like novelist Jarnail Singh Sekha, writer Bhupinder Malli, and Indo-Canadian Workers Association representative Surinder Sangha offered seasoned advice. Eminent lyricist Sukh Dhaliwal and businessman Amritpal Singh Dhot added their voices to encourage students to persevere and seek success on the right path.
The event also saw participation from other notable figures, including Kuljit Kaur Mananwala, Mrs. Ladhar, and members from Sea Face Society and Studio 7 such as Navi Dhanju of Punjab Boxes, Lakhbir Singh Lakha, Kaka Sekhon, Gagandeep Singh Sahota, Mankeerat Singh Ball, and Karamjit Randhawa. Young artists Harman Singh Ladhar from the Hasal Group and singer-director Angad Tanveer Singh contributed, inspiring the youth to respond positively to the society’s initiatives for progress.
This seminar not only created a platform for valuable discourse but also strengthened the resolve of attendees to navigate the challenges of their international journeys with greater resilience and community support.
