Sikh Heritage Society BC has received the 2024 Surrey Civic Distinction Award for Heritage Education and Awareness.
The Surrey Civic Distinction Awards celebrate outstanding contributions in various fields, including environment, arts and heritage, sport tourism and more.
A non-profit organization led by a group of young volunteers, SHBC continues to make strides as a leader in the community. “Founded in 2018, SHBC has consistently demonstrated a commitment to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the widespread contributions of Sikh Canadians to the social, economic and cultural fabric of British Columbia, whether it be through public events, art exhibitions, or educational resources,” said Mohnaam Kaur Shergill, Director of Media and Communications at SHBC.
“We are deeply humbled to receive this recognition,” said Shergill. “Our mission has always been to create awareness and preserve the rich heritage of the Sikh community, and this award inspires us to continue our efforts.”
