SUVA – Wonder boy Roy Krishna celebrated his birthday in style scoring a hat-trick for Fiji against Kiribati on his first game as captain.

The Labasa lad who turned 24-year old could not wish for any other way to celebrate a special occasion.

Firstly he was given the captain’s armband by coach Gurjeet Singh after skipper Simione Tamanisau was rested. And then he scored Fiji’s only goal in the first half.

Krishna then grabbed a brace of goals in the second spell to round off his special day. The Waitakere United striker is hoping his manager would arrange a birthday party for the team.

He said it was a good way to celebrate his birthday. Krishna commended the performance of his troops in the second spell.

“We did not have a very good outing in the first spell but the players came back strongly in the second half to record this win,” he said.

“I want to thank God for the victory. We have not played under such hot weather for quite some time but we managed to get together to score goals and I thank the boys for their hard work.

“Scoring three goals for my country on my birthday is enough for me,” Krishna said.

“It is a good way to celebrate my birthday and I want to dedicate this win to my family, my mum, dad, brothers and sisters back at home.”

Krishna said the best was yet to come in the tournament.
