TORONTO – A South Asianwoman was among two slainwomen whose bodies werefound in the Ontario town ofMarkham on Christmas Eve.York Regional Police continueto be tight-lipped about otherdetails of the grim double-murder.Bodies of Haimwanti Persaud,35, and Chi-Ling Yip, 42, ofMarkham of Ajax were found inan apartment building in thecity.David Howe, 46, ofPenetanguishene walked into apolice headquarters inNewmarket to both report anincident and turn himself in topolice on Tuesday.A action that led investigators toboth an apartment building anda parking lot in Markham wherethe bodies of Yip, 42, andPersaud, 35, were found.While police say both womenknew Howe — who is nowcharged with first degree murder— they are not divulgingmuch else about their relationship.Const. Andy Pattenden wouldn’tsay how the victims andaccused knew each other, howor why the two women werekilled, or what Howe was doingin Markham.“That is not being released atthis point,” said Pattenden,adding that investigators hopepeople recognize the names ofthe two victims and come forwardwith more information.Pattenden also wouldn’t providedetails around where specificallythe bodies of the women werefound or if a weapon of somekind was used in their murders.He also couldn’t provide detailsabout the victims’ occupationsor their families.The body of one victim wasfound inside an apartmentbuilding in the McCowan Rd.and Hwy.407 area, while the other wasdiscovered in a parking lotaround Hwy. 7 and WardenAve., according to one newsreport.Post-mortem examinations ofthe two victims had been scheduledfor Thursday. Howeremains in custody.
