On July 18, 2022, Surrey RCMP received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted while undergoing a physical exam by a doctor at a pain clinic located in the 6600-block of 152A Street.
Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit took conduct of the investigation and recently submitted a report to BC Prosecution Services recommending charges.
On September 13, 2022, 54-year-old, Olumuyiwa Bamgbade was charged with one count of sexual assault. He later turned himself into the Surrey courthouse where he was brought before a judge and released on conditions, which include:
You must not be alone in an examination room with a female patient. If you are to be in an examination room with a female patient, it must only be in the immediate and continuous physical presence of a female chaperone over 19 years of age
You must display in your office and in each of your examination rooms a notice that says that all interactions with female patients in a private room and/or examination room will be done in the continuous physical presence of a female chaperone over 19 years of age.
Doctor Bamgbade has been operating the pain clinic in Surrey since October 2021 and prior to that practiced in Delta, BC.
“We are releasing a photograph of Doctor Olumuyiwa Bamgbade in an attempt to further the ongoing investigation,” said Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Vanessa Munn. “We believe that there are likely people in our community who have additional information and we encourage them to reach out to investigators with our Special Victims Unit.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
