Surrey Community Alliance nominated it’s slate of candidates last weekend and now plans to use the rally cry against gang violence as a major part of their platform.

The SCA said it believes that Gang Violence is one of the key issues in the upcoming City Council election this fall. City council must take leadership in addressing this crisis. We are dismayed that the current council has failed on this issue.

SCA fully supports the call by #StandUpForOurKids to the creation of the Multi-stakeholder committee. This should involve the law makers/enforcers, Surrey School District personnel and most importantly community members. We need a multi-pronged approach to tackle this issue.

The left-leaning party is proposing that Surrey should consider its own Police Force which is more accountable to the community. Many say that this could help in addressing the gang violence and other public safety issues the citizens of Surrey have endured for too long.

Nominated Candidates are from right to left:

Dough Elkferd for council

Bernie Shepard for Council

Asad Sayed for Council

Saira Ajula for Council

Imtiaz Popat for Council

Niovi Patsicakis for School Trustee
