There was another shooting fatality in Surrey last Sunday.
The victim of the latest shooting, 27-year-old Sean Christopher Kelly, became the second person killed in gunplay in just over a week.
Surrey Mounties, responding to a call about an injured man, found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the 13900-block Antrim Road just after 8 p.m. on Sunday. He was later pronounced dead.
Kelly had a lengthy criminal record, including firearm charges, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and breaches of a court undertaking. The charges stemmed from incidents in Surrey and Delta.
Homicide investigators described the incident as a targeted shooting.
There have been at least 50 shootings in Surrey this year.
Last Saturday, two men were shot in the driveway of a home in the 14300-block 90A Avenue. One man was injured, while another, Jatinder (Michael) Sandhu, died from his injuries.
Homicide investigators say neither men had criminal records. They don’t believe Sandhu was involved in an ongoing gang conflict over the drug trade.
Last Thursday, shots were fired in the area of 135A Street and 108th Avenue. Officers found two men with gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
