Vaisakhi Celebration by RMCS

Richmond Multicultural Community Services (RMCS) celebrated Vaisakhi at Caring Place, on Friday, April 29. Mayor Malcolm Brodie,along with Councillors Chak Au, Bill McNulty, Carol Day and Andy Hobbs joined the celebration. Also,Steveston – Richmond East MP Parm Bains, Richmond South Centre MLA Henry Yao were present at the occasion.Richmond North Centre MLA Teresa Wat and Richmond Centre MP Wilson Mio sent their greetings.Mayor Brodie, Henry Yao and Parm Bains addressed the audience and talked about the significance ofVaisakhi in the Canadian context. Former RMCS President Balwant Sanghera shared his thoughts aboutVaisakhi with the audience. Sanghera mentioned that Vaisakhi signifies the start of the harvestingseason in India. Also it coincides with the creation of the Khalsa (The Pure One) by the tenth and the lastGuru of the Sikh faith, Guru Gobind Singh ji. Now Vaisakhi has become an international celebration bythe South Asian community around the globe. This celebration included turban tying, entertainment,Meet and Greet and delicious South Asian food. RMCS staff led by Ashok Rattan organized this celebration.
