VANCOUVER – With the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading like wildfire in India. Each day India is breaking bleak global pandemic records, local charity is helping to raise India COVID relief funds. The virus is now spreading to rural and remote villages.

Vancouver-based non-profit society Vivek Canada has been working with communities in rural and remote areas in Uttar Pradesh, India.

With the devastation unfolding in India, Vivek Canada has launched a fundraising appeal. The India Covid Relief Fund will go towards:

  • Providing medical supplies (such as: gloves, PPE, masks, oxygen concentrators, oximeters and no-touch thermometers) to a 50 bed Covid Care Centre that was recently initiated by the Indian government in Madho Tanda village; and to the Puranpur hospital.
  • Partnering with WWF India (World Wildlife Fund) to help prevent the spread of the virus in the Puranpur area. In the village where Vivek Canada operates a primary school, WWF has

donated sewing machines to rural women in order to stitch masks. This project is generating income for rural women and Vivek Canada is purchasing these masks in order to distribute for free in the community.

  • Distributing kits containing soap, masks and hand sanitizer to families.
  • Providing food supplies to those unable to work and/or leave their homes. All supplies will be purchased and distributed by Vivek Canada in India.
