Volunteers are the backbone of every community and its organizations. This is more so in case of Richmond. These dedicated citizens contribute countless hours in order to better their community. Like numerous other community organizations, Richmond Multicultural Community Services (RMCS) has dozens of volunteers who spend a lot of their time in helping others. In order to recognize their contribution, RMCS held an impressive function on Friday, February 28 at the Caring Place. In addition the RMCS Board members, Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Councillors Linda McPhail, Councillor Alexa Loo, Speaker of the BC Legislature and Richmond East MLA Linda Reid as well as school trustees Jonathan Ho and Alice Wong took the time out of their busy schedules to grace this occasion. Mayor Brodie and Linda Reid congratulated the volunteers and wished them well. Altogether, twenty volunteers were recognised. There were two categories of volunteers who were presented with certificates of recognition and appreciation. One category was for those who had put in at least thirty hours of volunteer work. The second category was for those who had volunteered for hundred hours or more. At the same time, RMCS celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year. After the formal ceremony, the audience was treated to a very impressive entertainment by the Red Leaf Multicultural Art Group. Along the way, the attendees enjoyed mouth- watering refreshments.   It was a very fitting occasion to recognize and appreciate some of the people who provide selfless service for the betterment of our community and also celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.
