SURREY – The Integrated Homicide Team was called in when a woman was found murdered of in a Surrey basement suite Thursday night at a house apparently owned or occupied by an Indo-Canadian family.

Police arrived at the home in the 8400-block of 148A Street at around 7 p.m. and said early investigations reveal the death is a homicide and not related to gang activity.

Crime scene investigators expect they will be at the residence for several days.

Neighbours are saying the woman was probably in her twenties but police aren’t telling much about her. Her body was found in the rented basement suite at around 7 p.m.

“I would presume that the crime scene itself will be held at minimum, 24 hours, if not longer,” says RCMP Corporal Adam MacIntosh with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Details of the death have not been released.

A neighbour who’s lived in the area for 22 years told News1130 there’s never been a problem in the neighbourhood before. He can’t remember police being called to the home before, either.

Police say the woman is no stranger to the home; they’ve been talking to the owners, who live upstairs.

Anyone with information or who observed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or email [email protected].
