During the assault, the young victim was kissed and fondled beneath her clothes and has left the young woman with emotional effects which the Judge said \u201care real, severe and long-term.\u201d \u201cI wanted to kill myself so badly, just so I didn\u2019t have to feel nothing anymore,\u201d she wrote in the statement. \u201cI feel worthless.\u201d Bhangal will be placed on the sex offender registry and will submit a DNA sample to police.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TORONTO &#8211; A prominent Indo-Canadian businessman from the Toronto suburb of Brampton has been sentenced to four months of house arrest for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old teenage girl two years ago. reported the Toronto Star.<\/p>\n<p>Gurmeet \u201cBill\u201d Bhangal, 47, was convicted last month of the Apr. 15, 2011, assault, which took place in a Mercedes SUV. An appeal has already been filed.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, was overcome by emotion as she read her impact statement to the court. The statement, read out instead by the Crown attorney, shared her struggle with uncontrollable anger and suicidal thoughts since the assault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to kill myself so badly, just so I didn\u2019t have to feel nothing anymore,\u201d she wrote in the statement. \u201cI feel worthless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She is also in debt. The woman was employed by Bhangal at the time of the assault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no motivation to find a job because I was so afraid it would happen again,\u201d she said. To escape constant reminders of the incident she went to college, where she saw a counsellor and was treated for depression. But she couldn\u2019t concentrate on her studies and dropped out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like it will never end,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/thelinkpaper.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Pam-Hundal-Hubby-Guilty-Sex-Assault1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-27207\" title=\"Pam-Hundal-Hubby-Guilty-Sex-Assault\" src=\"https:\/\/thelinkpaper.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Pam-Hundal-Hubby-Guilty-Sex-Assault1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelinkpaper.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Pam-Hundal-Hubby-Guilty-Sex-Assault1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelinkpaper.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Pam-Hundal-Hubby-Guilty-Sex-Assault1.jpg 545w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In rejecting the Crown\u2019s request for a three-month jail sentence, plus two years probation, Justice Richard Schwarzl said the assault was a \u201creckless dalliance\u201d that was \u201cserious but not as serious as it could have been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The assault \u2014 where the victim was kissed and fondled beneath her clothes \u2014 caused no physical injury and no weapon was used, he said. But the emotional effects \u201care real, severe and long-term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cbreach of trust between employer and employee was exacerbated by the extreme age difference,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, a sentence served in jail rather than under house arrest would be \u201cdisproportionate because of the good things (Bhangal) has done before and after his heinous crime,\u201d he said, noting that Bhangal is considered a \u201ccitizen in good standing\u201d with the community and is unlikely to reoffend.<\/p>\n<p>Bhangal was also sentenced to 18 months\u2019 probation, and, as is mandatory, will be placed on the sex offender registry and will submit a DNA sample to police.<\/p>\n<p>Bhangal is married to Pam Hundal, a well-known Brampton lawyer who is the provincial Conservative party candidate in Brampton-Springdale and first vice-president of the Ontario PC Party.<\/p>\n<p>She has twice run unsuccessfully for a seat in the Ontario legislature, first for the Bramalea-Gore-Malton riding in 2007 and the Brampton-Springdale riding in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that she assisted her father, Sam Hundal, in his many unsuccessful campaigns for office.<\/p>\n<p><em>Courtesy Toronto Star<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The teenage girl who worked for Gurmeet &#8220;Bill&#8221; Bhangal, husband of prominent Indo-Canadian Conservative politician Pam Hundal, says she felt suicidal after being fondled in his SUV.
