He added it is evidentthat the police department wasresponsible for delaying things.”In the beginning, the trialcourt had ordered summons to34 witnesses, but the police didnot serve summons to 24 people.Police had informed the courtthat some could not be tracedwhile others did not accept thesummons.
Only one witnessappeared before the court. Policehad deliberately not taken the jobof issuing summons seriously,”said Singh. Singh said that it tooktwo years for the police to presentthe doctor who treated theinjured in that incident before thecourt. “Also, Salman was absent82 times when summoned by thecourt,” said the activist, adding:”Later, even the public prosecutorstarted ignoring the case.”Singh said that he woulddemand that a high level inquiryinto the matter.
“The commissionerof police needs to set up ahigh level inquiry into the matter,to show how simple summonswere not be served from time totime for years together and witnessesnot produced in court,”he said.
