VANCOUVER – CBC-Radio Canada’s Open House and Food Bank Day concluded its 30th year, shattering previous records by raising $ $780,347 for B.C. food banks, thanks to the gracious generosity of British Columbians.

CBC stations around the province featured a mix of live broadcasts and events, while collecting cash and food donations. In Vancouver, the public were once again invited to an open house at the Vancouver Broadcast Centre. Over 3600 people came to watch the live broadcasts, meet their favourite local and network personalities and tour the newsroom.

“It would be wonderful if the need for food banks did not exist,” said Johnny Michel, senior managing director of CBC British Columbia and Alberta, “but until that day comes, we want to pay tribute to the outpouring of generosity that stems from our audience. Thank you to all British Columbians from the bottom of our hearts for supporting their friends and neighbours in need this holiday season.”

At this year’s open house, CBC’s network personalities, Peter Mansbridge, Erica Johnson, Ian Hanomansing, as well as Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Andrea Bang of Kim’s Convenience joined local personalities including Andrew Chang, Johanna Wagstaffe, Rick Cluff, Stephen Quinn, Sheryl MacKay and Gloria Macarenko in meeting the public and taking part in the live broadcasts.

In addition to attending live concerts, the public interacted with hosts and reporters from CBC and Radio-Canada, toured the state-of-the-art integrated newsroom and radio studios for English and French productions, and practiced weather presenting on the CBC Vancouver News set.
