Many local and charitable organizations are coming together for one single goal of helping those effected by recent floods. You can become part of the relief effort by donating

People impacted by the BC floods will not be returning home anytime soon. The work is just beginning. Floods and mudslides victims need community support to get through this devastating time. Along with provincial and federal government support, many local and charitable organizations are coming together to donate money, supplies and volunteer to help the people come out of devastating impacts of flooding. One such amazing effort is that of Kirpa Collective, Tera Terra Helping Hands, Ik Sansar Foundation, and Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar who have come together to provide and distribute food and essentials throughout British Columbia.

Kirpa Collective came into being recently after Abbotsford was hit by the disastrous rains and flooding.  The collective was founded by Parmbir Singh Lally as a result of the 2021 British Columbia floods and State of Emergency. A handful of local citizens of the city came together to provide immediate and essential relief to victims of catastrophic events, including but not limited to natural disasters.

Within days they were able to grow a group of 100+ volunteers to aid struggling communities all over Southern BC, including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Hope, Merritt, Kamloops, Lytton, Boston Bar, Nooaitch Band, Nicomen Band, Coldwater Band, Chawathil First Nation, Princeton and more.

Recently Kirpa Collective, Tera Terra Helping Hands, Ik Sansar Foundation, and Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar and Guru Nanak’s FreeKitchen talked about their initiatives at a press conference at Surrey Board of Trade.

“Through united efforts we have been able to organize highway transport, boats, helicopters and planes to deliver supplies to both local and isolated stranded communities in desperate need. Special thanks to Shaun Bradley of West Coast Pilot Club and Menno Koehoorn and his team for stepping up to provide selfless air and water transport,” the five organizations said in a joint statement on Monday.

Together these organizations have been able to coordinate highway transport, boats, helicopters and planes to deliver supplies to both local and isolated stranded communities in desperate need. As per their press release, to date they have been able to provide 200,000 lbs of supplies distributed to affected areas throughout Southern BC including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Hope, Merritt, Kamloops, Lytton, Boston Bar, Nooaitch Band, Siska Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux, Nicomen Band, Coldwater Band, Chawathil First Nation, Princeton, Spences Bridge and more.

Since starting on November 16, they provided meals for evacuees, front line response teams, and the volunteers working tirelessly day and night. The organizations were able to fund emergency supplies immediately needed by evacuees, food banks, shelters, and sandbagging sites.

Funds raised are also going towards equipment needed for sandbagging, clean-up, and fuel for trucks and planes transporting supplies.

Ik Sansar Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting at-risk women and children and Indigenous communities. Their work has included back to school programs (backpack and school supply drives) for underprivileged children and families and ongoing food, blanket, and necessity support to at-risk communities.

Tera Terra Helping Hands Society is a charity made up of board members with diverse backgrounds with over 50 years of philanthropic experience dedicated to raising funds for organizations who provide support for people in need in our community.
