ABBOTSFORD – An Indo-Canadian woman’s body was found by the side of a road in a rural area of Abbotsford on Sunday Feb. 18. The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Shaminderjeet Brar, who was reported missing to Abbotsford police on Feb. 12.

A passerby discovered the body Monday on the side of Riverside Road, a rural road in Abbotsford. Police said Wednesday that the body displayed significant injuries to the rear torso area, consistent with an impact from a motor vehicle.

They determined Brar was last seen on Saturday at around 8 p.m.

The collision that allegedly killed her would have happened between then and early Monday morning, they said.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the death appeared suspicious, but it’s too soon to say if it’s a homicide.

MacDonald said earlier in the week that it’s just a matter of time before the driver responsible is found.

“There is not a point in time where it’s going to be too late to come forward, except if we knock on your door. At that point, I think your world will definitively will cave in,” says MacDonald.

He says the driver and any possible passengers must have known they hit something or someone.

“For that reason we are making the appeal to anyone who would have been in or around the area of Riverside Rd, south of King Rd in Abbotsford, to call Abbotsford Police if you have any information that either pertains to this South Asian pedestrian that was walking, or any notations of that particular area where her body was found,” says MacDonald.

Abbotsford police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (604) 859-5225.
