SURREY – The victim of Friday’s shooting has been identified as an Indo-Canadian man and his family has been notified, police said.

According to police, 35-year old Satwant Singh Bains said good-bye to his wife and kids before heading off to work. He walked out his door, entered his vehicle and moments later was shot and killed while seated in his vehicle on the driveway.

Bains did not possess a criminal record and he was not known to police. Evidence to date suggests that this killing was not random and Bains, described as a family man, was a victim of a targeted shooting.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team continues to look into the motive for this shooting. Extensive neighborhood canvassing was completed throughout the weekend.

“At this stage we are attempting to determine a motive and are asking any witnesses to come forward,” IHIT said.

Witnesses described a white 4 door sedan vehicle speed off westbound on 86 Avenue towards 152 Street.

A witness told CTV News he heard about three gunshots at approximately 5 a.m. and heard a car leaving the scene afterwards. A man’s body was reportedly slumped out of the driver’s side door of a car parked in the driveway.

“I’d just gone in to get coffee; a gentleman had said… there was a shooting,” said one caller to News1130, who adds no one can get through in the area.

One man whose yard is taped off as part of the investigation says he didn’t hear anything this morning, but the neighbourhood has its share of “ruckus,” with loud parties.
