MELBOURNE – A Sikh taxidriver in Australia, who returned$110,000 in cash he found onthe rear seat of his cab to itsowners, has received aMelbourne City Council awardfor his honesty.Lakhwinder Singh Dhillonfound the money after droppingoff a group of people at CrownCasino in Melbourne lastmonth.The Lord Mayor Robert Doylepresented Singh with a certificateof commendation.Singh said the seven men andtwo women, whom he hadpicked up from Chinatown inhis maxi cab, seemed verydrunk.“When I saw all that money, Ithought, what is happening, it issomething amazing, whatshould I do,” Singh said.After finding the cash, he droveto a Police station but he soonreceived a call from the ownersto return the money at the casinowhere he left them.Singh believed they were visitorsfrom China staying at the casino.“They gave me a $500 reward.One of them said: ‘You’re veryhonest, you’re a very good man,you’ve helped us a lot’,” Singhsaid.“He is truly an inspirationalMelbournian – it was the act ofan honest man of integrity,”Mayor Doyle said.Singh said he was greatly honouredby the award.
