22 Indians Charged In Singapore For False Salary Information

SINGAPORE – Singapore has charged22 Indians, including a woman, with providingfalse salary information to obtaintheir work permits, the manpower ministrysaid on Wednesday.The 10 people from a group of 22 Indiannationals faces up to seven weeks in jailafter they pleaded guilty on Tuesday.They would also be permanently bannedfrom working in the city state.For the remaining 12, one would go forpre-trial on February 28 while 11 othershave sought an adjournment for theircases. The group of 21 males and 1woman, aged between 24 and 39, hadmade false statements to the Controllerof Work Passes between November 2010and September 2013 in connection withthe applications for 19 EmploymentPasses (EPs) and three S Passes (SPs).They were employed by four separatecompanies.The Ministry stressed that applicants forEPs or SPs must meet the minimumsalary requirement. However, theaccused persons knew that their employerswould pay them less than theamounts declared, it said.
