SURREY – Final preparations are underway for the annual Vaisakhi Parade, taking place on April 19, 2014, to bring together over 200,000 people in the world’s largest parade of its kind outside of India. The Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar invites the community to join this celebratory event and to savour the unique entertainment, live music, decorated floats and authentic Indian food courtesy of locals.

As a new initiative this year, Vaisakhi is proud to collaborate with the Surrey Food Bank to organize a significant food drive as part of the day’s festivities. The Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar is accepting non-perishable food items from April 13 to 20. A number of collection areas will be located along the parade route to facilitate and encourage donations.

As the event date approaches, organizers would also like to remind those who will be involved in the parade to refrain from using helium balloons in order to decrease air pollution post-parade.

Parade Route: The Vaisakhi Parade is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:30am at the Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar, located at 12885-85 Avenue. The Parade will conclude at the starting point at approximately 4:00pm.

•             11:45am-12:45pm – Ceremony honoring community volunteers
