Sikh Seva!

While everyone was busy celebrating Vaisakhi in South Vancouver there was a group of individuals that took the spirit of the Khalsa to downtown Vancouver.  Sikh Seva, a branch of Sikh Youth Vancouver, kept with their regular program of feeding those in need in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Vancouver.  “It would have been much easier to set up a stall on the parade route but there is more than enough food there and these people need our help more”.  Indeed they do and they were thankful that even on this day our community did not forget them.   Hungry people were lined up before the food arrived.  The line up did not break for hours and hundreds were fed.  “Thanks for thinking of us” stated one young man who used the service.  “Once you talk to these people you realize that they had normal lives, jobs, and families.  Circumstances in life took them to these dark corners of the world.  This is something that can happen to anyone so we just have to be thankful for what we have and try to help out as much as we all can.  Guru Nanak Dev Ji started this mission and in his name we must continue his service” stated a volunteer.  Sikh Seva and volunteers at the Ross Gurdwara have been providing this service for over two years.
