FARIDKOT – A day after the death of a BJP district president’s son in Kotkapura town of Faridkot, the police Tuesday booked three leaders of the party for abetment to suicide.

Amit Parkash, son of Gyatri Parkash, died under mysterious circumstances. A month ago, a widow had accused him of taking Rs 45,000 from her on the pretext of getting her employed as an anganwadi worker. The police had then started an inquiry against Amit.

It is alleged that due to the complaint, Amit’s father was replaced from the district president’s post on September 21.

Though Amit was cremated, his wife Poonam Sharma complained to the police. She accused Parveen Gupta (former BJP district president), Sunil Singla, Sanjeev Kumar and the widow, Komal Sharma, of hatching a conspiracy against her husband and father-in-law to tarnish their image.

She alleged the conspiracy led to her father-in-law being removed from the district chief’s post and her husband committing suicide.

Kotkapura Station House Officer Amritpal Singh confirmed a case of abetment to suicide had been registered against Gupta and three others.

Gupta refuted the allegations saying he had nothing to do with Amit’s death. “It is shocking that Amit’s wife is accusing me for his death. I have nothing to do with the complaint that Komal Sharma had lodged,” claimed Gupta.

Gyatri Parkash alleged it was a conspiracy hatched by his rivals within party to tarnish his image. The economic offences wing of the Faridkot police had started an inquiry into the allegation after the widow made a complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police.
