SURREY – A Newton area home as riddled with bullets after a targeted drive by shooting in the in the 12100-block of 82nd Avenue.

Surrey RCMP are investigating after numerous bullets were fired at a house in Newton last night. Police said nobody was injured in the shooting. It happened at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday and people were inside the house at the time.

The Surrey RCMP cordoned off the area, blocking traffic along a stretch of 82nd Avenue just east of Scott Road, as a police dog searched the area and officers appeared to be collecting bullet casings from the street, reported Surry Now newspaper.

One area resident said she heard 10 shots. “Sounded like they emptied a clip,” she said.

Another woman said she also heard shots. “It was such a loud noise,” she said.

Police are looking for suspects and reviewing video surveillance footage. Cpl. Bert Paquet said they are also looking for a small greenish-grey SUV with a hatchback that sped away from the area. He described it as a “possible suspect vehicle.”

“The specific house we believe was targeted because of alleged criminal activities associated to a person that resides there,” Paquet said.

Paquet noted the neighbourhood is a “fairly nice area, not an area where we see these kinds of things.”
