MOGA – Few NRIs have come forward to help people of their village reconstruct a deteriorated school building.

A major portion of the building of Shaheed Head Constable Avtar Singh Senior Secondary School at Kapure village was dismantled a few months ago to avoid any untoward incident.

The locals then approached the state government to get it reconstructed, but failed to elicit any response. The villagers said the students had been attending classes in the open even in adverse weather conditions for the past several months.

They then approached the NRIs of their village who extended financial help to them. The NRIs — Jagtar Singh (Manila), Mukhtiar Singh (Canada), Ranjit Singh (Canada), Mukhtiar Singh (Dubai), Avtar Singh (US) and few others — raised Rs 30 lakh and got constructed as many as 13 rooms in the school. Munish Chawla, DIG, Ferozepur Range, inaugurated the new building today. He lauded the efforts of the NRIs for extending help for development of their native village.

He appealed to the NRI community to adopt their villages and help in development works, besides giving financial assistance for education of the poor children.
