After much controversy, decorated Canadian solider-turned politician Harjit Singh Sajjan held his kick-off fundraiser that was packed  with 600 people at South Hall Banquet Hall in Vancouver last Sunday with ticket $200 each. The fundraiser sent a message to his opponents that he has widespread community support not just from the Sikh-South Asian community but also from the Chinese-Canadian community with nearly a dozen tables bought by them as well as the mainstream community.  The keynote speaker was Lt-Gen (Retd) Andrew Leslie, a star Liberal Candidate for Ottawa-Orelans. Leslie has had a decorated 35 year career with the Canadian Armed Forces. During his career he participated in numerous major international missions – including missions in the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. He was Commander of the Army from June 2006 to June 2010. Also on hand was former Liberal MP from Richmond Raymond Chan, who also spoke at the event and spoke very highly of Sajjan stating his experience in policing and the military a very valuable asset to Team Trudeau. Candidates from other ridings were also in hand such as former MP Sukh Dhaliwal, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, Jati Sidhu, and Louis De Jaeger. The crowd of over 600 people were a great display of support and the momentum is building with Team Sajjan as he continues to work towards the upcoming federal election.
