Minor Girl Sold For Rs 1 Lakh Rescued

SANGRUR – A 14-year-old tribal girl from Kunti district of Jharkhand, who was allegedly sold for Rs 1 lakh sometime ago in Kurukshetra, was today rescued from a 50-year-old man at Karoda village, about 10 km from Khanauri in Sangrur district. The girl was rescued by the Jharkhand police along with members of an NGO from Delhi. The team was accompanied by the girl’s mother and the Khanauri police to Karoda village.

District Social Security Officer (DSSO), Sangrur, Darshan Singh said the minor girl was a student of Class IX, who had been residing in a rented room in Kunti district, away from her village. He alleged the girl’s friend and her husband along took her to Kurukshetra near the New Year’s Eve, where she was sold to a 50-year-old man for Rs 1 lakh.

The DSSO said an ASI of the Jharkhand police, along with the mother of the girl, raided the house of the man at Karoda village this morning and recovered her. Station House Officer (SHO) of Khanauri police station Roshan Lal said the accused, Ranbir Singh of Punia Wali Khark village in Hisar district, had been living with her sister in Karoda village. He said the Jharkhand police had arrested Ranbir.
