CHANDIGARH – The Punjab Congress called on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to register cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, in addition to corruption, against state BJP president Kamal Sharma.

Some of Kamal’s associates have been allegedly arrested in connection with the latest seizure of two Pakistani SIM cards and fake currency.

A delegation of the party MLAs Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Parminder Singh, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Amrik Singh Dhillon, Sunder Sham Arora and Gurkirat Singh Kotli, led by former Finance Minister Lal Singh, will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard next week.

“The seizure of Pakistani SIM cards and fake currency, besides heroin, is a serious matter. It points to links with the neighbouring country. All these people happen to be associates of Kamal Sharma, one of them being his personal assistant.

“It is Sharma who has been patronising them. This amounts to his tacit involvement. However, Badal has been protecting him as he heads the state unit of the alliance partner,” they said.

The leaders said it was a bigger racket, but the effort was to only take selective action. The situation calls for court-monitored CBI probe. The BJP high command must first sack him as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been talking of providing transparent and corruption-free governance.
