SURREY – Amid reports that Conservative candidates have been instructed by the party not to participate in debates or conduct media interviews, Sucha Thind, Conservative candidate for Surrey Centre, was conspicuously missing at a recent All Candidates Meeting hosted by the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association, said his NDP opponent Jasbir Sandhu.

“Connecting with the residents of Surrey Centre has been my priority for the last four years as the Member of Parliament and it will continue to be my priority if I am re-elected. I have been on the door steps and on the phone connecting with Surrey Centre voters and talking to them about the issues that are important to them in this election,” said Sandhu. “If candidates aren’t accessible and willing to share their opinions with the voters that they are hoping to represent, how can the residents of Surrey trust them to advocate for the needs of our community in Ottawa?”

Thind also failed to answer a questionnaire from the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association that was circulated to candidates prior to the meeting. Previously, in June, he missed a candidate forum on the topic of US Thermal Coal hosted by the organization Communities and Coal.
